Alpha Kappa Psi - Fraternity History

Brooklyn, New York - 1904

In 1904, Alpha Kappa Psi was founded on the principles of educating its members and the public to appreciate and demand higher ideals in business and to further the individual welfare of members during college and beyond. Alpha Kappa Psi is much more than just another organization or club—it is a unique, prestigious association of students, professors, graduates and professionals with common interests and goals. Alpha Kappa Psi is the nation's oldest and largest professional coed business fraternity. There are nearly 240,000 initiated members world-wide and more than 300 chartered campuses in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. Brothers join Alpha Kappa Psi to take advantage of valuable educational, friendship and networking opportunities.

Our fraternity provides leadership development, personal and professional training and essential business skills. Brothers are given the opportunity to practice the business skills classrooms can only talk about such as the art of compromise, consensus building, project management, team building and networking. Brotherhood, loyalty, integrity, business etiquette, professionalism, and social networking can only be learned from experience.

We strive to build positive, lifelong friendships among fellow students, local business leaders and faculty. Through teamwork we also gain an understanding of the importance of service, develop an appreciation of diversity, and utilize critical thinking skills to overcome challenges and celebrate successes. Our professionalism is also enhanced by national programs that include regional Success Institutes, The Academy, Case Competition and the College of Leadership. What's more, by joining Alpha Kappa Psi you become part of an organization that has also helped develop such leaders as Sam Walton, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Malcolm Forbes, and JC Penny to name a few.

The biggest takeaway would be the network it created for me. Thinking back, my job during the school year, first internship, and first job after college was all due to connections I had with AKPsi.

Our Core Values

Our Guiding Principles

Building Brotherhood Brotherhood is vitally important to AKPsi from the day members become brothers until the end of their lives. Members foster a love of the fraternity and develop a sense of duty and respect for both the fraternity and individual members. We are anchored by the need to do what is in the best interest of the fraternity and act with a sense of stewardship and selflessness.

Lifelong Learning In the world of business college is only the beginning. Beyond college members share their experiences and knowledge, seek out opportunities to share with brother members and continually aim to enhance the lifelong learning of those members.

High Ethical Standards The business world always presents decisions about how we succeed, and our membership recognizes the importance of conducting business in an ethical and legal manner. Our members serve as role models through their consistently fair and ethical conduct.

Improving Communities Much is expected of those to whom much is given. Improving the communities in which we live improves lives and develops goodwill. Our brothers actively give back through volunteer and community service events.

Enhancing the Fraternity for Life AKPsi members are given the chance to learn and experience professional conduct and given practical applications of classroom concepts. Because our brothers recognize the value and importance of our Fraternity, we are united in our passion to build a legacy for the future.
